About Joe
"My parents taught me to be a servant leader, to be a good listener, and to never give up. These values have helped me represent Coloradoans and to solve complex problems." said Representative Miklosi. Joe is originally from New Boston, Michigan, a rural community near the Ohio-Michigan border. The family farm is still operated by his relatives in Milan, Michigan. Joe's mother was a waitress for 35 years and his father taught elementary art for 33 years. Joe's brother works in the renewable energy industry. His blue-collar upbringing has taught him to never give up, to work hard, and to serve others. During the past two and a half years, Joe has worked for PROJECT C.U.R.E., the largest collector and distributor of donated medical supplies and equipment to thousands of doctors, nurses, health care clinics, and hospitals in 125 developing nations around the world, including Haiti. Joe has traveled to Rwanda and Kenya, Africa on humanitarian trips. Before working at PROJECT C.U.R.E., Joe worked as the Colorado State Director for Progressive Majority, a statewide, grassroots organization that recruits, trains, and elects fiscally responsible and socially progressive municipal and state candidates throughout Colorado. While at Progressive Majority, Joe also founded the annual Color Colorado Conference, a forum to discuss innovative methods for making the Colorado civic process more inclusive for African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, Asian Americans, and all people from communities of color. In 1993, Joe also worked as a Business Development representative for two Fortune 500 software manufacturers, Computer Associates and Veritas Software, an industry leader in storage management software solutions. Joe has been an active Rotarian for eight years where he has been responsible for helping raise $100,000 for at-risk youth prevention programs in Denver, polio eradication in developing nations, an orphanage and school in Rwanda, Africa, and hosting an annual Veteran's Appreciation Breakfast at the Wings Over Rockies Air and Space Museum - which is attended by over 200 veterans every year. He also serves on the board of the Rwanda Leadership Foundation, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization that has raised $500,000 in three years to support the leading technology school on the continent of Africa. He is also a youth civic engagement researcher. His Master’s thesis, which focused on increasing youth civic engagement participation levels, was recently published in the National Civic Review.
